TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR GE - IC693PWR322

The IC693PWR322 is a Standard Power Supply developed by GE. It is part of the Mark I and II control system and is designed for the Series 90-30 Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems. This power supply unit operates on a nominal input of either 24V DC or 48V DC and delivers a 30-watt output. It is specifically designed to be mounted in the standard power supply slot on any PLC baseplate. While it can maintain all outputs within specified limits with input voltages as low as 18V DC, it will not initiate startup with input voltages below 21V DC. It provides three distinct outputs: a +5V DC output, a +24V DC relay output used to power circuits on any IC693 relay output module, and a +24V DC isolated power output for input modules.

Power Calculations and Specifications

  • When using the component, users should calculate the power requirements based on their specific application needs. The process begins by determining the total output load, which can be found in the specifications listed in the PLC Installation and Hardware Manual for individual modules.
  • To find the input power value, multiply the total output load by 1.5. To calculate the input current requirement, divide the input power by the operating source voltage.
  • Since the operating source voltage can vary, it is advisable to use the lowest measured or estimated input voltage to determine the maximum input current. Operators should also account for start-up surge current requirements and include a 10-20 percent margin for variation.

Design and Functionality

  • It is part of the GE Series 90-30 standard power supply family and does not come with an internal battery. Unlike AC power supplies, this unit is specifically built for a nominal input of 24V DC or 48V DC.
  • It maintains its output levels even at the lowest input voltage of 18V DC, though it cannot start if the input voltage is below 21V DC. The three output voltages provided include a standard +5V DC output, a +24V DC isolated output, and a +24V DC relay output.
  • The 24V DC relay output supplies power to all relay output module circuits within the Series 90-30 PLC system.

Protection and Reliability

  • The 24V DC isolated output is used internally by certain I/O modules and can also provide external power to 24V DC rated input modules.
  • To protect the internal components from damage, the module features built-in current limiting functions that automatically shut down the power supply in the event of a direct short fault. Additionally, it has an auto-ranging capability that eliminates the need for jumpers when assigning incoming power levels.
  • The power supply also boasts an inrush current rating of 4 Amps and a minimum hold-up time of 14 milliseconds, ensuring reliable performance and protection against power interruptions.
