TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR GE - IS220PPROH1A

IS220PPROH1A is a Backup Turbine Protection (PPRO) I/O pack developed by GE. The Backup Turbine Protection (PPRO) I/O pack and associated terminal boards offer an independent backup Overspeed protection system, as well as a backup check for generator synchronization to a utility bus. They also serve as an independent watchdog for the primary control. Three triple modular redundant (TMR) PPRO I/O packs mounted to separate simplex protection (SPRO) terminal board or three PPROs put on a TMR TPROH#C terminal board constitute a typical protection system. Each SPRO or TPROH#C is connected to the designated emergency trip board through a cable with DC-37 pin connections on both ends:

  • TREG stands for Gas Turbine Emergency Trip Terminal Board.
  • TREL: Terminal Board for Large Steam Turbine Emergency Trips
  • TRES: Terminal Board for Small/Medium Steam Turbine Emergency Trips

A different configuration places three PPRO I/O packs directly on TREA for a single-board TMR protection system. For IONet communications with the control modules, the PPRO includes an Ethernet connection.

Functional Description

  • Two Ethernet ports, a power supply, a local processor, and a data acquisition board are included in the I/O pack. This design simplifies or eliminates much of the previously required instrumentation for connecting to field equipment, as well as improving operational reliability and lowering long-term maintenance costs.
  • The IS220PPROH1A is utilized in Aeroderivative Turbine Emergency Trip applications and is commonly used with the TREAH terminal board. The component can be connected to terminal blocks that are either barrier or box type. For voltage sensing, the part has field-wiring restrictions that limit cable length to 1,000 feet of 18 AWG wiring. When switching from a BPPB P-Pack to a BPPC P-Pack, the component cannot be auto-reconfigured.
  • The front faceplate of the part is marked with the component id number and many LED indications. These are arranged in pairs on the front faceplate. PWR/ATTN is the first pair, LINK/TxRx and ENET 1 is the second, and LINK/TxRx and ENET2 is the third. The final component is the IR port, which is placed at the bottom of the faceplate.
  • The part is equipped with a high-speed processor and two 10/100 Ethernet ports that are completely independent. A hardware reset circuit and a watchdog timer are included in the pack. An inbuilt sensor keeps track of the temperature.

Compatibility

The PPRO I/O pack comprises one of the compatible BPPx processor boards listed below:

  • The PPROH1A is equipped with a BPPB processor board.
  • The PPROS1B includes a functionally compatible BPPC processor board that is compatible with the ControlST software suite V04.07 and later.

Simplex Main Control

  • The Mark VIe control trip board TRES supports simplex backup protection.
  • The controller IONet has one PPRO network port.
  • All Mark VIe control backup trip boards, TREG, TREL, TREA, and TRES, feature TMR backup protection. Each I/O pack is connected to a distinct (R,S,T) controller network in this setup.

Triple Main Control

When using a TMR main control, backup protection is supported (two out of three running). This setup is supported by all Mark VIe control backup trip boards (TREG, TREL, TREA, and TRES). The first PPRO I/O pack is connected to the R network, the second PPRO to the S network, and the third PPRO to the T network in the standard network configuration.
