TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR GE - IS230TVBAH8A

IS230TVBAH8A is a vibration terminal board developed by GE. It is a part of Mark VIe excitation system.

The Vibration Terminal Board (TVBA) is a component within the Mark VIe control system, serving as a crucial signal interface board for the PVIB (Vibration Input Board) I/O pack. Within the broader Mark VI system, it operates in conjunction with the VVIB (Vibration Monitoring Board), providing comprehensive vibration monitoring and data acquisition capabilities.

Direct Interface with Various Sensor Types

The TVBA is designed to interface directly with a range of vibration sensors, making it highly versatile and adaptable to various industrial applications. It supports the following types of sensors:

  • Seismic (Velocity) Sensors: These sensors measure the velocity of ground or structural vibrations, providing critical data for assessing the integrity and performance of machinery and structures.
  • Proximitors: These are proximity sensors commonly used to measure the distance between a sensor and a target object, often used in vibration monitoring and machinery protection.
  • Velomitors: These sensors combine the functions of velocity and displacement measurement, offering a comprehensive solution for vibration monitoring.
  • Accelerometer-Type Probes: Accelerometers measure the acceleration of vibrations, providing detailed insights into the dynamic behavior of machinery and structures.
  • Signal Conditioning and Protection

To ensure the accuracy and reliability of the data collected, the TVBA incorporates several important features for signal conditioning and protection:

  • Signal Suppression: This feature reduces unwanted noise and interference in the signals received from the sensors. By suppressing these extraneous signals, the TVBA ensures that only relevant and accurate data is transmitted to the control system.
  • Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) Protection: EMI protection shields the input signals from external electromagnetic disturbances, which can otherwise distort the data and compromise the monitoring system's accuracy.
  • Buffered Outputs

  • The buffered outputs provided by the TVBA (Vibration Terminal Board) serve as additional interfaces for the monitored signals, ensuring robust signal transmission and compatibility with various monitoring systems, including the Bently Nevada 3500 system.
  • BNC Connectors provide a standard interface for analog signal transmission. The buffered signal output on BNC connectors ensures compatibility with a wide range of instrumentation and measurement equipment.
  • 25-pin (Vib/Position) or 9-pin (Keyphasor) Connectors are specifically designed to interface with the Bently Nevada 3500 monitoring system. They provide a direct connection to ensure seamless integration and accurate signal transmission within the monitoring system's framework.
  • Buffered Signal Requirements

  • Amplitude Accuracy: The buffered signal maintains an amplitude accuracy of 0.1 percent, ensuring precise representation of the monitored vibration or position signals.
  • Bias Voltage Addition: For seismic signals, a -11V DC bias is added with an accuracy of 5%. This bias voltage is essential for proper signal conditioning and compatibility with downstream equipment.
  • Current Sink Capability: When interfacing with Velomitors, the buffered outputs are capable of sinking 3 mA of current. This feature ensures that the Velomitors operate correctly and receive the necessary current for accurate signal detection.
  • Unity-Gain Buffering: The buffered outputs maintain unity gain, ensuring that the output signal matches the input signal in amplitude. This buffered output can drive an impedance of 1500 ohm and handle capacitive loads up to 1000 pF with less than 10% overshoot. This characteristic is crucial for maintaining signal integrity and preventing signal degradation over longer cable runs.
  • Parallel Output Capability

  • Resistive Isolation: Both the center pin and the shell of the BNC connectors are resistively isolated from the DB connectors. This isolation ensures that the voltage levels on the DB connectors remain within specifications even if the BNC connector is shorted or experiences other electrical conditions.
  • Compatibility Assurance: This parallel output capability enhances the flexibility and reliability of the TVBA in diverse monitoring environments. It ensures compatibility with various equipment configurations and provides robust protection against potential electrical faults or disruptions.
