TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR GE - IS220PHRAH1B

IS220PHRAH1B is a HART Enabled Analog Input/Output Module developed by General Electrics. It is a part of Mark VIe control system. It serves as the critical link, providing the electrical interface between one or two Input/Output (I/O) Ethernet networks and an analog input/output terminal board. This package comprises a processor board that is standardized across all Mark VIe distributed I/O packs and an acquisition board tailored to the specific needs of analog input functionality. With robust analog input capabilities, HART communication support, and a range of connectivity options, it is a valuable addition to industrial systems that rely on precise analog signal management and communication with intelligent field devices.

Features

  • Analog Input Capabilities: Adept at managing up to 10 analog inputs, making it a valuable component for handling a variety of analog signals within your industrial system.
  • Current Loop Inputs: For current loop inputs, load termination resistors are conveniently located on the terminal board. The PHRA senses voltage across these resistors, facilitating precise measurement and interpretation of current loop signals.
  • Current Loop Outputs: Offers support for two 4-20 mA current loop outputs. This feature is essential for sending control signals or data to compatible devices.
  • HART Communication Relay: In 4-20 mA mode, the PHRA can relay Highway Addressable Remote Transducer (HART) messages between HART-enabled field devices and an Asset Management System (AMS). This capability allows seamless communication and data exchange with intelligent field instruments.
  • Flexible Device Connectivity: HART-enabled field devices can be connected through any of the inputs or outputs, providing versatility in the setup and integration of your analog devices.
  • Robust Input and Output Connectivity: Input is facilitated through dual RJ45 Ethernet connectors, ensuring reliable and redundant network connections. Additionally, power input is simplified with a 3-pin connector. Output connections are established through a DC-62 pin connector that seamlessly links with the corresponding terminal board connector. This streamlined connectivity simplifies installation and maintenance processes.
  • Visual Diagnostics: Equipped with indicator LEDs, offering at-a-glance visual diagnostics. These LEDs help users quickly assess the status and performance of the pack.
  • Local Diagnostic Serial Communications: For in-depth diagnostic and configuration tasks, local serial communications can be established through an infrared port. This feature allows convenient interaction with the PHRA, facilitating system maintenance and troubleshooting.

Installation

  • Begin the installation by securely mounting the terminal board of your choice in the desired location.
  • Insert a single PHRA I/O pack directly into the connector on the terminal board, ensuring a secure connection.
  • To enhance mechanical stability, secure the pack in place using the threaded studs located adjacent to the Ethernet ports. These studs should align with a specific mounting bracket designed for the terminal board type. Adjust the bracket's position to prevent any right-angle force from being applied to the DC-62 pin connector that links the pack to the terminal board. This adjustment is typically a one-time requirement throughout the product's lifespan.
  • Depending on your system configuration, connect one or two Ethernet cables to the pack. The PHRA pack can operate effectively using either port. In the case of dual connections, it is a common practice to connect ENET1 to the network associated with the R controller.
  • Power up the PHRA pack by plugging in the power connector located on the side of the pack. It is important to note that you do not need to insert this connector with the power removed from the cable, as the I/O pack incorporates an inherent soft-start capability. This feature effectively manages the current inrush when power is applied, ensuring a safe and controlled startup.
  • Configure the I/O pack as necessary to tailor its operation to your specific requirements. This step ensures that the PHRA pack functions optimally within your application, delivering the desired analog input and output functionality.

Analog Input Hardware

Within the PHRA (Process Analog I/O Adapter), the analog input hardware plays a pivotal role in processing and interpreting input voltage signals from the terminal board. This essential hardware section is designed to accommodate signals from all 10 input channels, ensuring accurate and reliable data acquisition.

Key Components of the Analog Input Hardware

  • Analog Multiplexer Block: At the core of the analog input hardware is an analog multiplexer block. This component serves as the gateway for incoming voltage signals, allowing for the selection and routing of signals from various input channels. It efficiently manages the flow of data, ensuring that the right channel is accessed at the right time.
  • Gain and Scaling Selections: The analog input section incorporates several gain and scaling options. These selections enable users to adapt the input signals to match the desired range and precision, ensuring that the data acquired is both accurate and suitable for the application's requirements. 16-bit Analog-to-Digital Converter (DAC): To transform analog voltage signals into digital data that can be processed by the system, a high-resolution 16-bit analog-to-digital converter (DAC) is employed. This component precisely quantizes the analog input, converting it into digital values that can be easily processed, stored, and utilized by the system's control and monitoring functions.

The combination of these components within the analog input hardware ensures that the PHRA can effectively handle a wide range of analog input signals with precision and efficiency. It provides the necessary flexibility and accuracy to interpret real-world analog data, making it an indispensable component in applications that require reliable analog signal processing and conversion.
